Thomas
D. Osborn and Frances G. Welson specialize in the custom design,
fabrication, and installation of marquet and inlaid floors. Commissioned
designs are developed in close collaboration with the architect,
designer, or client. Their one-of-a-kind original designs may be
dramatic or subtle, accenting aesthetic, architectural or religious
features and complementing the shape, use, and spiritual tone of
the space.
The floors are a graceful and elegant play of light and texture,
form, and color. By bringing out the natural beauty of the wood
through a blend of traditional and modern flooring techniques, Osborn
and Welson create a mosaic with richness and vibrant warmth.
They approach floors as an opportunity for creativity and innovation
which enables them to develop exciting new options in flooring:
expertise in installing into existing floors and the ability to
incorporate pewter and back-lit stone or glass in designs are but
a few of the latest.
Full 3/4-inch hardwood is used throughout. Extensive research has
resulted in an increased palette of both native and sustainable-yield
exotic woods. Clients may choose from the natural color and luminous
hues of over 80 species.
As all work is custom, it is difficult to give prices. Actual costs
depend on the complexity of design and the woods chosen. Design
work generally starts at $100 per hour. wood prices run between
$6 and $40 per square foot and can fluctuate from month to month.
Brochure is available upon request. Consultation early in the planning
stages is highly recommended. Inquires are welcomed.
